Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4 November 2026
This policy explains how BillHelper ("we", "us") handles personal information through getbillhelper.com, its related domains and the BillHelper apps for iPhone and Android. BillHelper is run from the United Kingdom and is currently in a testing phase: payments run in Stripe test mode and no real money moves.
Who is responsible
BillHelper is the data controller for the information described here. Contact: hello@getbillhelper.com.
What we collect
- Account details. When you sign in with Apple or Google we receive an account identifier, your email address (or an Apple private-relay address) and, if you share it, your first name. We never see your Apple or Google password.
- Bills you post. If you ask for help we store what you submit: your first name, the biller name, amount, due date, category, your story, a photo of the bill and a photo or video of you explaining your situation. We ask you to cover account numbers and other sensitive details before uploading. Approved bills are shown to other signed-in users.
- Swipes and payments. We record which bills you pass on or pay for. You save a card on our website, where Stripe collects your card details directly; we never see or store your full card number. We keep your Stripe customer reference and the card type, last four digits and expiry date so we can show which card will be charged. For each payment we store the bill amount, the 5% transaction fee, the total, the Stripe payment reference and its status. There is no wallet or stored balance.
- Thank-you messages and reports. Messages, emoji and optional photos receivers send to donors, and any reports users make about bills.
- Early-access list. If you joined our list: your email, the interest you picked, the date and the country your request came from.
- Technical data. Basic logs (such as request time and errors) kept by our hosting provider for security. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. The website uses one essential cookie to keep you signed in; the apps store a sign-in token on your device.
Why we use it
To run the service you asked for (our contract with you): showing bills, taking payments, paying billers, delivering thank-you messages and keeping your account working. To keep people safe (our legitimate interests): reviewing every bill by hand before it goes live, preventing fraud and abuse, and handling reports. To meet legal obligations, such as keeping payment records. Bills and stories you post can reveal information about your finances or health; by posting, you choose to share it with other users, and you can delete it at any time.
Who we share it with
Other users see the first name, story, media and bill details of approved bills, and receivers see the display name a donor chooses (or "Anonymous"). Donors' emails are never shown to receivers. We use these processors: Cloudflare (hosting, database and media storage), Stripe (payment processing; see stripe.com/privacy), and Apple and Google (sign-in). We may share information if the law requires it or to prevent fraud. We do not sell personal information.
How long we keep it
Bills and their media are kept while they are live and for up to 12 months after they are paid or closed, so we can handle questions and fraud. Payment records are kept for up to 6 years to meet UK accounting rules. Early-access emails are kept until you ask us to remove them.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account in the app (Account > Delete account) or by emailing us. This removes your profile and sign-in, takes down any bills you posted and deletes their media. We keep minimal payment records where the law requires it.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct, delete or move your data, object to how we use it, or withdraw consent. Email hello@getbillhelper.com. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Children
BillHelper is for people aged 18 and over.
The demo
The demo at /app stores everything, including any photos or videos you add, in your own browser only. Nothing you enter in the demo is sent to us.
Changes
We will update this page when things change, including before real payments go live, and show the date at the top.
